Summer Celebrations

On 21 August the club held its first social event since the pandemic.

What was intended as a BBQ was turned into a kitchen catered event due to the tinder-dry outfield.

Around 25 members and guests turned out on a lovely sunny afternoon

Equipment officer Mark Yard and his wife Lucie laid on a cornucopia of foods and a splendid assortment of games including a very competitive egg and spoon race. [read]

Jolly Archers Open Western 2022

Jolly’s Open western resumed its usual July date this year (31 July 2022).
CCB had a record attendance with 8 archers making the trip to Huntingdon
We mixed seasoned competitors (Jack, Richard, Anke, Lydia, Huw); new to external comps (Alvaro); and those returning after a longish absence form competition (Seb, Patrick). [read]

CCB at Cambridgeshire County Champs

The Cambridgeshire outdoor County Championships took place on 19th June 2022 at Girton College, hosted by Peacock Archers. CCB send a number of archers, ranging from defending champions to first-time competitors. One of the latter was Mark Yard, who provided the wonderful summary of the day below. [read]

Compound Success at Kestrels’ York/Hereford

On 8th May 2022 the intrepid CCB Compound Team of Jack and Lydia made their way over the border to Kestrels’ Archery Club of Biggleswade in Bedfordshire to shoot a York/Hereford competition. The first big event for a couple of years it was a chance to blow off the cobwebs somewhat. [read]

Winter Postal League Results

Over the 2021/22 Indoor season we took part in two Postal Leagues. Both meant shooting a match against a different club from November to March – and hoping for the best! Teams consisted of two and three archers for compound and recurve, respectively, and were made up of the members with the highest scores for that month. [read]

Jolly Archers’ Open Western

On 19th September 2021 four CCB archers made the trip up to Huntingdon to shoot the Jolly Archers’ Open Western Competition.

CCB at Oxford Team Challenge

On Sunday the 29th August two CCB compounders, Lydia and Jack, entered the Oxford Archer’s Mixed Team Challenge. This competition is a rare event presenting an opportunity to shoot the World Archery mixed team format which sees a team of two archers, one female, one male, shoot head-to-head knockouts against other teams. The Return to Downing!

Well club, long time, no website post!

After a very disrupted year, in so many ways, and our brief sabbatical at Girton, CCB has officially returned to our home of Downing College Sports Ground. Although our first session was pretty chilly and windy, it was great to see some archers back on the field at last – here’s hoping we manage another year with fewer interruptions. [read]

Then our ground made the decision to stay closed for all of summer, making us temporarily homeless.
